Yesterday in Sonoma, California at Infineon Raceway, Jimmie Johnson blocked Denny Hamlin from winning his third straight race in a row by getting his first road win of his career and his 4th win on the season. Overall I really enjoyed the race. This is really my first season watching NASCAR and I use to be the first one to make fun of it but now I tape it every Sunday and look forward to setting down for 2-3 watching 40 some cars take left turns. Yesterday I was really getting into at the end so much so that I was on the edge of my seat with suspense. This was also the first road race I had ever seen which I thought was quite interesting since I thought only Indy Cars did that kind of racing but needless to say it was action packed filled with tons of cautions and tons of rubbing and if you've ever watched "Days of Thunder" you know that rubbing is racing. The 110 lap race was heavily dominated by Jimmie Johnson, who led 55 laps, and Marcos Ambrose, who led 35 laps.
HIGHLIGHT/GREAT DRIVING OF THE RACE:
This was done by Mr. Denny Hamlin who was involved in a wreck earlier in the day but managed to stay on the track and then his hood decided to come unlatched and he drove 1/2 way around the track with his hood covering his windshield and he still maintained good speed and didn't crash or run off the racetrack. He ended up making in back into pit road in order for his crew to fix up the car and he went onto to finish the race in 34th place.
BONEHEAD MOVE OF THE DAY:
Marcos Ambros was leading the race and pulling away from Jimmie Johnson with about 10 laps to go when a caution came out and during the caution Marcos tried to cut of the engine and cruise and when he did he came to a complete stop and due to NASCAR rules he was forced to lose his spot since he did not maintain caution speed. This was a rule that he should have definetly known about and it cost him 5 spots since he ended up finishing the race in 6th place. BONEHEAD!!!
Thanks to Ambrose's gift JJ went from 6th in the standings to 2nd and he is currently only 140 points behind the leader, Kevin Harvick, going into next weeks race.
